Victoria Watson

Victoria Watson has taught voice and piano for just over thirty years, her experience ranging from 3 year olds at the Yamaha School through secondary to students at Monash and Melbourne Universities and older adult students and professional singers. She currently teaches from her private studio in Artarmon and trains choristers from major choirs including Sydney Philharmonia . She also mentors music and voice teachers and opera educators.

Victoria has performed widely in concert repertoire and was an ensemble and principal artist with the Victoria State Opera for many years . She was the artistic director for ten years of the Fred Street Opera Education Project for Opera Australia introducing opera to disadvantaged students in public secondary schools. She is an enthusiastic advocate for active participation in the arts and making high art experiences accessible and engaging for all. Victoria was recently honoured at Opera Australia with a 'hanging' in the Opera Centre Green Room celebrating twenty years of service to the company .

 

Victoria has regularly lectured for all the Sydney opera groups and for Opera Australia, the Noosa Long Weekend Festival and other opera interest groups.
 
She brings a performer's insight to a lifelong commitment to opera as the most endlessly fascinating art form of the Western Music tradition.
